  • Text: her, in this painting there is no perspec- / tive, but in the lower group of figures in the / act of congratulation, are some fine Natural / heads & some female figures simple, beautiful & / perfectly natural / on the other side of this Chapple is pain- / -ted the different states of punishment of the / different vices after death, the Ideas seem to / have been taken from Dante & the manner / of execution bears a strong resemblance to the designes of hell in the Vatican M:S: / of Virgil / John of Fiesola / in the Dukes collection[i] chamber of Old pictures / in the gallery, is a Virgin as large as life / sitting with the infant Jesus on her knee / some little Angels are in a kind frame.work[sic] / round this picture playing on different Instru - / -ments, this man's painting was more delicate than his predecessors & some of the little an- / -gels are extremely beautiful much like / Ghiberti's figures in whose time he lived / on the 2 doors of this picture are 2 fi- / gures as large as life, of S:t Paul & S:t / John Baptist but they are Stiff & poor
