Description

Soft-paste porcelain tea caddy and cover, painted underglaze in blue with Chinese landscapes.

Soft-paste porcelain tea caddy and cover, moulded, and painted underglaze in blue. The octagonal caddy has flat shoulders and a cylindrical neck, is surmounted by a flat-topped cylindrical cover (A), and stands on a flat glazed base. The sides are moulded with alternate flower sprays and leaf and scroll-edged panels painted with Chinese landscapes, a scroll border round the foot, and a band of scrolls and florettes round the shoulders . The cover is decorated en suite.

History note: Bought from Mr Cunliffe, Hanway Street, Tottenham Court Road, on November 14th 1917, for 10gns.
