Description

Soft-paste porcelain sauceboat, decorated with a moulded low relief and painted underg;aze in blue with flowers.

Soft-paste porcelain sauceboat, moulded with decoration in relief, transfer-printed and painted underglaze in blue. The oval sauceboat has pinched lip spout, strap handle with thumbpiece, and stands on a waisted foot. Moulded on each side with an oval panel with scrolls and flowers in relief, enclosing a printed flower spray, a smaller vignette below the spout. The rims are painted on the outside with a floral meander border, a printed lambrequin inside the spout.

History note: Bought at Christie's, part of Lot 4, May 26th 1910, by Mr Fenton on Dr Glaisher's behalf, with nos. 3161, 3164 and 3166-7, for 7 gns.
