Method of acquisition: Given (1922) by The Friends of the Fitzwilliam Museum
Production date: AD 1909 : The date of 1912 placed by Sargent upon this picture must be regarded as an error; in 1912 he was in Spain, and the picture, with its typical choice of an olive-grove as a subject, dates from his visit to Corfu in 1909 (Goodison, 1977, p. 215).
