The unglazed underside has a round ventilation hole near the back. The square base has straight sides and is undecorated. Winter stands with his left knee relaxed and his arms crossed in front of his chest, leaning forward slightly. He has a long grey beard, and wears a blue cloak lined with brown and white fur, which falls down from his head to the ground at the back and is held up across his loins and upper legs in his right hand. On his right, projecting partly over the edge of the base, there is a covered bowl with a fire on top of it, and on his left, is a nude, brown-haired putto cutting wood with an axe.

This figure would originally have formed part of a set of Seasons. The model has been attributed to Johann Friedrich Eberlein because records exist for his having modelled figures of Bacchus and Flora in this set in 1745. Kaendler also worked on the figure of Flora in 1746, and Andres-Acevedo (Documentation 20223) attributed the figure of Winter to him.
