Inscription present: the following in grey ink: [i] preceding five words crossed through; [ii] preceding word crossed through; [iii] preceding word crossed through; [iv] preceding two words crossed through; [v] preceding word crossed through; [vi] preceding three lines crossed through

  • Text: in this slight & unsatisfactory manner / & 'tho some farther particulars may be found / respecting the joints & their parts, the distinction / of a few particular muscles in his Liber de / Arte[i] scantily dispersed in his Lib:or de / Articulis & some other parts of his work, yet / all these put together will not produce any- / -thing like the regular & accurate Osteoly & the / three dissections of Muscles to be found in / the Modern Anatomists Eustachius, Vesalius, / Cowper, & the Accurate, Correct & beautiful Tables / of Abbinus: the[ii] what Hippocrates says / concerning the bones seem to be incorrect[iii] remarks / on some Skeleton produced by the usual mode / of decay common to animal bodies after death / & perhaps of course deficient in some of[iv] it's / parts, & for his few & imperfect accounts relative / to the muscular system, they may be the result / of observations made with haste, inconvenience, / & fear, on some[v] bodies left on a field of battle / for we cannot beleive[sic] that the philosophie / & investigating disposition of Hippocrates would / have been contented with[vi]
