  • Text: generally exposed naked to the Seasons, to / running leaping & other violent excercise / The fat Sileni are figures fomed by excess / There are other Sileni whose faces & figures / have a more Philosophic Character / these seem particularly to officiate as priests / & to have the care of the mysteries / There heads in the[i] / some of the fauns have faces of young & / old Goats+ / Tritons have characters resembling the fauns* / Common Nature / Are distinguished by forms less perfect than / the Heroes, less beauty, of countenance, & Strength / in size / These rules contain the differents[sic] / Orders of Being which may be represented / to our Senses / And they cannot be transgressed without / confounding the Orders. / + busts in the Vatican intended to resemble fish / * A fine half figure in the Vatic:n perhaps in its countenance is
