  • Text: The first requisite in a Drapery is that the / a Garment of a determined form, should be disposed / on the living figure[i] or lay-figure + as the Palliam / Tum[?] & c.[ii] / Note continued / Some Artists of the 16th Century have studies / their draperies from paper hung on their lay-figures / but this practice is too far removed[iii] from Truth & / too ridiculous to need any comment. these & similar errors are the consequence / of a weak judgment, they reflect disgrace on the / professors, they tend to the destruction of Art & / to the oblivion of Knowledge / + It has been the defects of modern Art that its works / Drapery has been very imperfectly Studied[iv]
