  • Text: Pallium / 1 The form of this Garment is a long square / rounded on one sid[i] of the longer sides + _ it / was generally worn thus, one end thrown round / the right[ii] left side of the body as far as the back whilst the other end was carried under the right arm round the shoulders & fell over / the front of the left shoulder _ this garment is peculiar to / Jupiter, Bacchus, Esculapius & in general to / the Greek Philosophers Poets & Orators. / The manner of wearing the garment is like[iii] / The Fariolo of the modern Italians is worn in a manner similar / to this garment / note the Pallium or Cloak of the Men / & the Peplos or veil of the women as well / as[iv] & their varieties are thrown or wrapt round / the figure in different forms as the convenience / of the wearer required / 2 The Chlamys Chleana or Military Cloak must / have been nearly of a circular form with / an opening & a round hole in the middle / for the neck to pass thro' the, extremities of this / round hole were connected by a button / on the right shoulder / + See a collection of Antique dresses suited the French- / Tragedies of Ancient stories lately published at Paris
