  • Text: Peplo-chiton wa a i[i] reached to the / 5 ancles[sic] like the Tunica-talaris, from the neck it was folded down as low as the naval / it had a[ii] it open[iii] was connected by a button / on the shoulder of the open side, there was / a hole for the opposite arm to pass thro' / 6 Gothic figures are sometimes dressed / in a full Tunic wh[iv] with sleeves which reaches[sic] / to the feet. / It is not intended here to give a Dessertation[sic] / on the Greek dresses, those who desire to be / informed on this subject must consult, / Monfaucon, Reubenius de Re Vestiaria / Passeris' [*]dessertation[sic] on the Etruscan or Antient[sic] / Greek dresses, & the learned notes in the Museum / Herculaneum which contains the best information / as the Pictures are most ably explained[*] by the / ancient authors / The 6 examples of Greek Dresses above[v] are cited / above, because they are more commonly represented / than any others in the works of Antiquity & because
