  • Text: Woolen Draperies / Such at the n[i] woollen was the material of / the Palliam the Chlamys, the Draperies / repr[ii] with which Raphael cloathed his Apostles / &c this is particularly suited to Dignified / characters as the folds are larger & simpler / in their forms than those of any other figure[iii] / material / Coarse Woollen / To suitable[iv] a proper cloathing for inferior / characters / Linnen[sic] / Its folds are more frequent & have sharper / angles, yet when worn two or three days / it shews the figure under it more distinctly / than woollen / Fine Linnen[sic] / produces smaller folds, which in frequent- / repetitions play about the the[sic] projections of / the figure, wind round the limbs, form / cascades of folds, & float in the air from a / quick motion of the figure / Note / The Ancients in representing these fine
