  • Text: surrounding sh[i] objects, the azure sky, the Green[ii] / various coloured sea, & the dark brown & green colour of / the Land; in their forms[iii] the general form of a / building is quadrangular, & of consequence distinguished / from the sea, whose general form is determined by / a direct horizontal line, & from the land, whose / form, is a succession & continuation of waving lines / [iv] the figures of trees & thus the general effect of / a building seen at a distance is a white square / object relieved by the darker colours of th its background / in the / of landskape & sky[iv] / As we Thus we[v] see Nature as well[vi] as well by the colour / of the materials which it has furnished[vii] for buildings, as / by the forms necessary to make them useful for habitation / that N[viii] in the natural order of Nature[ix] of things they were / intended to present white on light-coloured Quadrangu / -lar objects[x] masses, to the sight, releived[sic] by the / darker colours of its back-ground in the Lanskape[sic] / & Sky: / It is being the inention of Nature, the Architect should be careful to preserve the intention of Nature in his buildings & never to cut or perforate his mass / unless for to no[xi] to make his building more usefull[sic] / & then his voids & openings should be regulated / by the rules of Harmony
