Soft-paste porcelain figure of a Butter Seller painted in polychrome enamels, and gilt.
Soft-paste porcelain figure of a Butter Seller, slip-cast, lead-glazed, and painted in green, pale yellow, yellow, pink, red, brown, and black, and a little gilding. The open underside is unglazed. The high base is made up of rocks at the back, and scrolls at the front. The female butter seller is seated on the rock with her right leg crossed over her left, leaning on the rock on her right elbow and looking down. She holds out a bowl with a pat of butter in her right hand, and in her left has the handle of a knife (blade missing). A brown basket full of yellow rolls of butter is perched on the rock beside her, and there is a large pink rose beside her waist. A smaller flower lies on her knee. She has black eyebrows, brown eyes with a curved red line over them, and a red mouth. She wears a red hood, a white bodice with a red belt below the breasts, a pale yellow skirt with a black border pattern, pink shoes, and a pink cloak decorated with black dots and stylized flower heads. The scrolls are picked out in pink and gold, and the rock is green.
