• Text: [1] This I suppose to be a Roman Gem / from the letters VIC or GH IACE if / it is VIC IACE it is likely to be an / abbreviation victor suceo or if it is / VH IACE it is likely to (signify / Viiesitibus Jaceo if the latter is the case / I should be inclined to think the [2] the stone was cut in Honour / of the Principal, or one) of the family / of the Family of the Fabii which / Defeated the Veii several times but at / last fell into an ambuscade, & were / all slain excepting one, 277 yr after / the building of the city & 477 before / the birth of Christ [3] the Armour on this figure / is very singular, for we / have few monuments / Remaining of the Roman / Armour of that time / & those we have are / very different from the / one before us
