Description

Soft-paste porcelain cup tin-glazed and painted in enamels in Kakiemon style with 'Quail pattern'.

Soft-paste porcelain, moulded, tin-glazed, and painted in blue, green, red, yellow, and black enamels in Kakiemon style. Both pieces are of a cusped quatrefoil plan with bases divided into four by channels radiating from a central depression. The cup has an angular handle with two projecting scrolls. The outside of the cup and the inside of the saucer are decorated with 'Quail Pattern'.

Note

The 'Quail Pattern' was one of the most popular Japanese Kakiemon style designs and was copied by many European factories. The cusped quatrefoil forms of the cup and saucer were copied from Meissen models of about 1730.
