Like one in the British Museum / which is Carv'd in Black Marble / such were the First Hermes of the Egyptians an [sic] / afterwards the Osiris of the Egyptians[i] very much Resembled / this Figure, as will be Shewn Hereafter. / Such says Hamilton) were the square Statues of Jupiter / & Neptune that were to be seen at Tegea, & Jricolona / in Arcadia, & which were nothing more than stones / in the Form of Terms with on which they had / Placed a Rounded Stone: which Figured the Head / Figure.1.

Xth l. of Genesis 5. v) seem to Me to / have been the First People that Perform'd / any sculpture whatever from a Variety of / scripture Texts: also the arts of Refining Gold / Silver &c Making Money Utensils &c / 13.[?] Genesis 2. V- 35. C Genesis 2 V. / We may with some Reason suppose that the / Chaldeans or Descendants of Mizraim & Phut / in the Land of Ur were[i] Made some kind of Images / as there is good Reason to beleive[sic] They were the / first Idolaters. See the Building of the Tower of / Babel: there is also Reason to beleive[sic] the / first Representations of the Human Form were made / in Clay: But we may[ii] But is natural to think / these were Rude Likenesses; & that No Rules / were given to Bring the Science to any Degree / of Perfection till a later Date of at least two / or three centurys after Mizraim Phut & their / followers had Possessed themselves of the Land / of Egypt & their Children for three or Four / Generations afterwards When they began to / apply themselves to the Geometry.
