  • Text: the tendon acts as a flexor, whereas in the latter / the tendon acts as a flexor only. / the fingers being of unequal lengths is very convenient / when the hand grasps a spheical body as the / thumb counteracts the four fingers the palm of the / hand becomes hollow & the ends of the thumb & fingers are / nearly level / if the fingers had been of equal lengths when the hand / was open when it was closed on a round body / the two middle fingers would have been too short to / have counteracted the thumb with a proper force / & the grasp would have been considerably diminished
