Soft-paste porcelain of a Recumbent Lion (or Lioness)
Soft-paste porcelain containing bone ash, press-moulded and covered with greyish, speckly lead glaze. The underside of the rounded rectangular base is unglazed and has a ventilation hole under the lion's hindquarters. The lion reclines with its head turned back to its left, and its left paw resting on top of a ball. Its tail is wound over its left back foot with its tip resting on the front of the base.
History note: Canon Bliss; a collector who had a living in Kent; J.J. Davis, 13 Snasgate (?), Dover from whom purchased for £3 on 22 November 1923 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher
