Factory: Bow Porcelain Manufactory

Soft-paste porcelain containing bone ash, figure of Bacchus, press-moulded with hand-modelled details, and very slightly blue-tinted lead glaze. Painted underglaze in blue, and overglaze in blue, turquoise, green, pink, orange, red, purple, and brown enamels, and gilt. The concave underside is glazed including most of the feet, and has a ventilation hole near the back. The rounded square base has five scroll feet with a pierced rocaille motif between the front two. On the viewer's left there is a large bulbous ewer with a pink rocaille motif and lower border on the back, sprays of fruiting vine on the front, and grapes and leaves filling the mouth.
Bacchus stands on his left leg with his right foot in front resting on a scroll projecting from the base. He leans back on the ewer on his right arm, and holds a white, pink and gold goblet in his right hand. In his left hand he holds up a bunch of grapes over the goblet. He has a wreath of vine over his brown hair, and wears a long pink drape with a blue and puce floral patterned lining, and gold edging, which passes over his right shoulder and down to the ground at the back. A rabbit is slung on his left side by an underglaze blue and gold strap. The base is picked out in underglaze blue, puce, turquoise, and gold.
