Description

Soft-paste porcelain figure of a girl holding a bunch of grapes and a basket of grapes, standing on a semi-circular base with a scrolled edge

Soft-paste porcelain, slip-cast, and painted over lead-glaze in green, puce, red, flesh pink, purple, brown, black, pale cream (a little) enamels, and gilt. Three patch marks on the base. The figure stands on a pierced, semi-circular base with a scrolled edge, and a tree trunk at the back with vine leaves projecting on the right, and two branches of grapes trailing downwards onto the top of the base. The girl steps forward with her left leg forward. She wears a white scarf draped round her head and tied under her chin, a white low-necked dress with a gold diapered stomacher, and gold bands round the edges of the bodice and hem, and white shoes with red heels and gold bows. Under her right arm she carries a basket full of grapes and in her left hand raises a bunch of grapes towards her mouth. The base is picked out in gold.
