Description

Soft-paste porcelain, slip-cast with applied details, and painted over lead-glaze in turquoise, green, pale green, yellow, pink, red, purple, and pale brown enamels and a little gold. The underside is concave, and glazed, with a circular ventilation hole in the centre. The base is oblong and flat on top, with scrolls on the edge forming three supports at the front. The youth sits on a tree stump leaning forward with his left leg extended in front of his right. His head is turned to his left (to look at his companion), and he holds a basket full of grapes and vine foliage with both hands. His pale brown hair is tied in a queue with a purple ribbon. He wears a pink hat, with a red flower at the front, a white coat scattered with green and purple circles, a floral waistcoat, and red breeches with gold garters and yellow bows at the knees, and white stockings and shoes with yellow bows on top. He has a small bag slung across his body by a strap. On each side of him on the ground there are four applied flowers, respectively yellow, red, dark pink and purple, and leaves. the scrolls on the base are picked out in turquoise and a little gold.
