Description

Soft-paste porcelain, moulded and glazed with dry-edge.

Soft-paste porcelain, slip-cast, and lead-glazed, with dry-edge. The underside of the base is unglazed and has a circular ventilation hole near the back. The low mound base is approximately circular and has a tree stump at the back with a projecting branch on the viewer’s left. Apollo stands with his left leg forward, his left arm extended in front, and his right arm extended to the side. His head is turned slightly to his left. He has long wavy hair and wears a wreath over it, and a voluminous drape caught up with a brooch on his left shoulder. On the ground on the viewer’s right is a heap of three books, a lyra da braccio, and a trumpet, and on the left, a painter’s palette and brushes, a hammer and another instrument. An object above these has been broken off.
