Description

Soft-paste porcelain, slip-cast, lead-glazed, and painted in turquoise, green, yellow, pink, flesh-pink, pale orange, purple, brown, and black enamels, and gilt; the underside is unglazed and has a large circular ventilation hole in the centre. It has two visible patchmarks. The figure stands on a rectangular base with cut corners, and straight sides moulded with Greek key pattern. On its top on the viewer’s right there is an urn with fruit and foliage on its cover, supported on a four-sided pedestal with lion’s paw feet. The woman stands on her left leg with her right leg relaxed and a little behind her. In her right hand she holds a bunch of leaves. Her left arm rests on top of the urn, and her head is turned slightly to her right. She has brown hair and eyebrows, rosy cheeks, grey eyes and red lips. She wears a wreath of ears of corn, and a gold bandeau on her head, a white short-sleeved tunic with a purple floral pattern, red lining to the neck edge, and cuffs, and a black and gold belt below her breasts. Her pale purple skirt has a pattern of darker purple dots and circles, and both garments have gold edges A turquoise scarf is draped over her right shoulder and across her body at the front and back, and she has a yellow and pink cloak attached by a brooch to her left shoulder, and passing across her back and over her right elbow. Her sandals are black.

The pedestal is decorated on three sides with a turquoise laurel swag bound at the top with gold, enclosing on two sides, a black musical trophy on an oval medallion. The fruit and flowers on the urn are painted in turquoise, green, yellow, pink and pale orange. The lower and upper edges of the pedestal have gold borders, and there are two pairs of horizontal gold bands on the side of the urn.
