Soft-paste porcelain figure of Jupiter seated in a chariot acompanied by an eagle
Soft-paste porcelain figure of Jupiter, slip-cast, and painted overglaze in turquoise, green, pale yellow, pink, dark pink, orange-red, pale purple, purple, brown, and black enamels, and gilt. The unglazed base has a small central ventilation hold, and four patch marks. The approximately circular base has a lobed outline formed by swirling waves or clouds. It rises up in the middle to support the ornate chariot in which Jupiter sits, accompanied by an eagle which perches on the chariot at his feet. Jupiter is bearded and wears a red and gold crown over his brown hair. He sits with his left leg forward, and holds a thunderbolt behind him in his left hand. His right arm is held across his body. He wears a pink drape with a stylised floral pattern, turquoise lining and gilt edge. The eagle is painted naturalistically. The chariot is picked out in gold, and the base is pale yellow and pale purple.
