Juno in a Chariot
Factory: Derby Porcelain Factory
Soft-paste porcelain figure of Juno riding in a Chariot accompanied by a peacock
Soft-paste porcelain figure of Juno, slip-cast, and painted overglaze in blue, turquoise, green, pale yellow, pink, dark pink, orange-red, pale purple, purple, brown, and grey enamels, and gilt. The unglazed underside has a central large ventilation hole, and three patch marks. The base is roughly circular with a six-lobed edge formed by swirling clouds and scrolls. It rises up into a cylindrical mass which supports the ornate chariot on which Juno sits, accompanied by a peacock which perches on the back of the chariot. Juno sits with her left leg forward, resting her right elbow on the side of the chariot, and holding a small globe in her left hand supporting it on her knee. She wears a red frontlet over her brown hair, and a pale yellow off-the-left shoulder dress, scattered with polychrome floral sprays, and having a turquoise lining, also a belt with a gold jewel at centre front. The peacock is painted naturalistically. The chariot is picked out in gold, and the base is pale yellow and pale purple.
