  • Text: A dark blue figure followed waving his / arms. On his head was what looked like / a monk's hood, but many thought it was / a soldier's helmet: perhaps he was a / military doctor, they said. He held / out a small blue phial, and said / Some wounds are never healed, / And nought can mend them, / Only the long long sleep / Of Death can end them. / And if no tie oraim / Remains, it may be right / To die: and who can blame / If I give Aconite. / and he very solemnly presented the / phial on which, in large letters, was the / word POISON. This speech caused / much discussion, and some said that / doctors were not allowed to kill anyone / tho' it was strange if those in the army / might not, for the business of soldiers / was killing their fellows. But the / majority they hoped it would soon be / thought right to put an end to incurable / suffering, if the patient approved, for / many poisoned their dogs without knowing
