Description

Gold, ivory, painting and glass. Locket in the form of a triptych. Back and front chased with flowering foliate design. Inside, in the centre, a miniature portrait of James Marlay, aged twelve, the brother of C.B. Marlay. On either side, but not under glass, as above, a painting on ivory of a kneeling angel by an unknown artist, c. 1840.

Note

James Marlay was the second son of Lieutenant Colonel George Marlay and his wife, Catherine A.L. Tisdall, whom he had married in 1828. George Marlay died two years later, and James was drowned at the age of thirteen.
