Description

Gold, hair (of Charles I), black silk. Oval locket with the script monogram CR, with crown above mounted in gold on the plain surface. Inside, on black silk and under flat glass, a lock of hair and a crown in gold. On the back of the locket is inscribed, some in elaborate script and with decorations: THIS LOCK OF HAIR/CUT FROM/THE HEAD OF/KING CHARLES IST/WHEN HIS GRAVE WAS OPENED/IN THE PRESENCE OF/GEORGE IV/AND OTHERS, APRIL IST 1813/GIVEN BY/GEORGE IV/TO THE DUKE OF CUMBERLAND/AND BY HIM/PRESENTED TO/MRS NUGENT.

Notes

History note: Given by George VI to the Duke of Cumberlandand; by him presented to Mrs Nugent. From then unknown before testator.
