Description

Late Medieval lead-glazed earthenware jug, painted underglaze in manganese and copper-green with geometrical decoration.

Pale buff earthenware, the interior and the exterior, except for a short area above the base, are covered with a yellowish-green lead-glaze. Painted underglaze in manganese and copper-green.
Shape 2. Ovoid with flat base, cylindrical neck, applied folded spout and strap handle. The spout and handle are flanked by three vertical lines forming side panels, each containing an interlacing arcade, a wavy line, a row of inverted scallops, three horizontal lines, scallops, and at the top vertical striations inside an arch. The lower part of the body and the neck are encircled by two horizontal manganese bands. On both sides of the spout, and below it, there are curved lines of alternate colours, and on the handle, three groups of three manganese lines alternate with two wider green.
