Maker: Unidentified Orvieto pottery
Late Medieval maiolica jug, painted in manganese and green with a shield on the front.
Earthenware. The interior and lower part are lead-glazed brownish-yellow; the rest tin-glazed, now beige and finely crazed. Painted in dark manganese and copper-green.
Shape 11 with longtitudinally ridged handle. Ovoid body with disk base, cylindrical neck, carinated rim, pinched spout and loop handle with a longtitudinal ridge.
The front is decorated with a green-edged shield charged with two swords crossed in saltire with the points in chief.
