Formerly attributed to Tintoretto. The drawing is stylistically comparable with surviving chalk drawings by Palma il Giovane and there are such marked similarities of positioning and composition with the figure of Christ on the Cross in Palma's 'St Thomas Aquinas contemplating the Crucifix in the church of S.Domenico', Fano, as to make it plausible that the drawing is a preliminary study for that painting.
