Description

Pale buff earthenware. Tin-glazed off-white on the exterior; inside of neck clear-glazed; base unglazed. The glaze is extremely shiny and, where thin, has a pinkish tone. There are patches of grey discolouration on the front and handle. Painted in dark inky-blue which has run, pale yellow, and very dark manganese-brown.
Bulbous ovoid body with short cylindrical neck, spout projecting upwards from the shoulder, and strap handle.
On the front, within a circular `ladder' frame, is a shield of testa di cavallo form, charged with the arms argent a fess sable between a crescent azure and a moor's head azure, flanked by wavy ropes reserved in a blue ground. The frame is surrounded by a garland of stylised flowers, fruit and foliage. On the sides there are scattered palm-like leaves, and, down the handle, five pairs of horizontal blue stripes.
