Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue and lustre on both sides with crowned AN monogram, formal foliage, and pseudo-gadrooning

Buff earthenware, thrown with applied handles, tin-glazed creamy-white overall. Painted in blue and with yellow lustre.
The vase stands on a circular foot rising into a short stem with an annulet. Its bulbous body has a short neck expanding towards the rim which has a vertical edge, and two strap handles.
On each side of the neck is a coronet with the monogram AN below, flanked by formal flowers and scrolling foliage springing from the base of the handles. The lower part of the body and foot are decorated with oblique pseudo-gadroons. The zones of ornament are separated by horizontal bands of lustre, and the handles, rim, stem, and edge of the foot are also lustred.
