Description

A faience scarab, mouldmade and uninscribed. The scarab us pierced 5 times, to allow it to be fixed to another object. In addition to the blue glaze there is an additional coating, possibly of wax, which gives the object a patchy brown appearance. This size and number of piercings suggest that this scarab had wings attached and was therefore a heart scarab, or decorative element on a mummy shroud. Its function would have been funerary.
