Copper ally figure
Coppery alloy figure of a Nubian woman in the form of a bust.
Copper alloy bust of a female figure. The piece was cast by using a mould technique. The surface is pitted from the original casting. It appears as if the object as it survives is complete. It is possible that other parts were case seperately and were intended to be added together. The object exists in the form of head to lower chest and the arms are only shown to just above the elbows. The bottom is flat and the objects stands unaided. It seems unlikely that this object would have been used because it is incomplete and perhaps was only used as part of a manufacturing process that was abandoned (maybe due to the pitted surface appearance). The subject wears the usual short Nubian wig and has strong African features a wide flat face, strong nose and wide mouth. It is likely the piece dates to the Twenty-fifth dynasty when Egypt's rulers came from Sudan and were Black Africans. It is possible that the statue represents a priestess or a member of the royal court.
