Limestone relief with grid
Sculptors trial piece, king slaying foes, with lion, grid. The King is here depicted about to smite his northern and southern enemies, thereby methaphorically ensuring the Egyptian cosmic order. The guidance grids for the illustration are still visible. Such grids were either inked onto the surface or scored on. There are different proportions depending on the period.
