Description

Fragment of a limestone relief from a building. Carved with an image of attendants, one standing and the other bowing.

Fragment of a limestone relief, carved with the image of two Nubian attendants, as identified by their short wigs and exagerated facial features. To the right only the head of a man lying of the ground in reverance can be seen. In front of him a man wearing a kilt stands, looking upwards, and gestures with his right arm raised. This indicates that the man is worshipping the missing figure, whose staff indicates that he was carved on a larger scale. This figure is likely to represent the King of Egypt (what is possibly his leg can be seen to the left of the scene, right on the break of the block. this scene may show either Nubian captives (although there is no indication that the men are bound in the usual manner) or Nubian attendants, who are paying their respects to the King. The block would have been part of a building, probably a temple. To the right of the scene is part of a hieroglyphic inscription.
