Description

Fragment of a face from a 'yellow' coffin, polychrome and varnished. The face has been carved from sycomore fig, with sidr and sycomore fig dowels. Preserved on the head is an ornamental band with an upside lotus flower in the centre. This flower suggests that the face may come from a woman’s coffin, although this feature is also found on men’s coffins as well. The chin and nose were heavily restored sometime in the early twentieth century. The structure and composition of the decorative layers on the face are very similar to the inner coffin and mummy board of Nespawershefyt (E.1.1822).
