Description

Fritware, incised under a turquoise glaze

Fritware, wheel thrown, incised under a cracked turquoise glaze
Shape: cylindrical neck with slightly everted rim descends, via a collar, onto a globular pear-shaped body on a low foot ring. A strap handle, with small thumb rest on the highest point, is attached to the neck and upper body.
Exterior: incised on the shoulder a band of scrolling lines, often forming roughly triangular shapes, are contained within concentric lines. Carved on the handle, a line of circles may imitate metalwork forms. The glaze runs over the lower body unevenly, terminating in places in large droplets.
Interior: covered unevenly with glaze, otherwise undecorated.
