Fritware coated in a white glaze painted in lustre
Fritware, wheel thrown, coated in white glaze painted with lustre.
Shape: pear shaped body, carinated at the shoulder, on a narrow, flaring foot ring. Wide cylindrical neck and plain rim; strap handle toped by a quadruped thumb rest, attached to the upper body and shoulder
Exterior: the rim is painted with a lustre band. On the neck two friezes comprise a kufic inscription, reserved on a lustred ground incised with spirals, above plamettes, also reserved in lustre. On the body, three friezes comprise palmettes and arabesques, on a background of dots and scrolls or reserved in lustre respectively and a pattern of lustre dots and scrolls. Above the foot ring a wide lustre band is painted. On the handle a cable pattern is reserved in lustre. Glaze coverage thin, particularly on the shoulder, terminates unevenly on the lower body.
Interior: lustre band continues on the rim. On the neck a kufic lustre inscription is painted on a background of lustre dots. White glaze terminates on the neck with the remaining surface covered with a thin clear glaze.
