Description

Fritware coated in a white glaze painted with lustre

Fritware, wheel thrown, coated in white painted with lustre.
Shape: carinated bowl on a foot ring with a hammer head rim.
Interior: On the rim and upper body two inscriptions are incised through a lustre band and another is painted in lustre. On the body, reserved on a lustred ground incised with scrolls, two confronted figures frame a flying bird and are surrounded by split leaf palmettes, they and are seated on a mound above a fish.
Exterior: on the body a floriated kufic inscription is reserved in lustre and is framed above and below by concentric bands of lustre. Glaze covers the lower body unevenly, terminating on the foot ring.
