Description

Fritware coated in white and blue glaze painted with lustre

Fritware, wheel thrown, coated in cracked white and blue glaze painted with lustre.
Shape: hemispherical bowl with plain rim, sits on a low foot ring
Interior: the rim is painted with a band of lustre. On the body, a radiating panel design comprises a blue Maltese cross painted with lustre jewel like motifs, lines and dashes. Between the arms of this cross panels contain either a seated figure with dotted coat reserved in lustre, or friezes of pseudo calligraphy and dotted scrolls.
Exterior: lustre band continues on the rim, on the upper body an inscription is painted in lustre. Glaze covers the surface unevenly leaving significant pitting and pooling on the foot ring.
