Note

Text from object entry in A. Game (2016) ‘Contemporary British Crafts: The Goodison Gift to the Fitzwilliam Museum’. London: Philip Wilson Publishers: Janice Tchalenko: ‘I have made many bowls throughout the years, as I find them an interesting and challenging vehicle on which to paint. I use glaze not merely as a decorative tool, but as an exploration of colour and depth, much like a painter. Glaze is a wonderful medium with which to paint, the glaze changing colour on layering and the firing adding that extra chemistry.’ A life history interview with Janice Tchalenko is available at http://sounds.bl.uk/Oral-history/Crafts
