Description

Cream-coloured earthenware with pale yellowish lead-glaze. The cylindrical box has slightly waisted sides and a lower border resembling a twisted rope. The slightly domed lid has a similar edging, and is moulded in relief with a half-figure of John Wilkes flanked by a Cap of Liberty and caduceus, and a trophy of trumpets. Below is the name 'J. WILKESE' in a panel edged by scrolls. The underside of the lid is incised with the name and date 'Samuel Baw L 1769
