Jackfield ware mug
Dark earthenware, thrown and glazed.
Ovoid, or barrel-shaped, mug with loop handle The surface is plain except for ridges around the body above and below the middle and a decorative piece at the bottom of the handle. The upper half and handle is shiny black.
History note: Sold Sotheby’s on 23 April 1926, in lot 19 with a salt (C.1798-1928). Bought by Mr Hunt, for £1, for Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.
