Jackfield ware decorated jug


Dark earthenware jug with manganese iron glaze and floral decoration in gold.

Large oviform jug with spreading base, out-turned rim, projecting lip and loop handle. On the front and sides, formal sprays of flowers in red, green and gold.


History note: Bought at Sotheby’s on 4 November, 1904, Lot No. 403, for 18/- (eighteen shillings), by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.
