Pottery: Unidentified Yorkshire Pottery
Pearlware, moulded and painted underglaze in blue. Cylindrical with deeply recessed base and ear-shaped handle with slightly projecting thumbrest and upward kick at the lower end. The sides are moulded with a continuous floral spray, 'WINCHESTER.MEASURE WARRANTED' between horizontal bands, and groups of wavy vertical lines. There are wide blue bands round the rim and base, two narrow bands flanking the inscription and one below the vertical lines. Down the back of the handle there ae four groups of three strokes separated by dots.

Probably made in Yorkshire. A creamware mug marked BRAMELD from the Swinton Pottery, Yorkshire has WARRANTED** WINCHESTER above the base. It is similarly fluted and decorated with a vine stem, leaves and flowers round the top, but has an angular handle
