Production date: after AD 1590 : Carlos van Hasselt observed that the religious theme with its humanisation of the Divine and emotional intensity belongs to a period later than that of Sabbatini (1530-77) and is consistent in style with paintings after 1590 in the provincial Italian cities, inspired by Lodovico Carracici's example (cf. the 'Madonna of the Scalzi' in Bologna of 1593)
