Description

Pale cream earthenware transfer-printed underglaze in brown, and painted overglaze in green, yellow and pink enamels. The cylindrical mug has a recessed base and an angular strap handle. The exterior is decorated with a railway-train travelling to the left through a landscape with hills, trees and bushes, a cottage, and a church with a spire. The locomotive, labelled 'EXPRESS', is followed by a small open truck for the driver and mate, two closed first class passenger carriages with luggage on top, and an empty barouche on an open carriage at the end. Inside the rim, and down the back of the handle there is a border of paired leaveds on a stem.
