Flask in the form of a Woman holding a Bird
Pottery: J. Bourne & Co.
Buff stoneware, the upper part partially dipped dark brown, and salt-glazed. The flask is moulded in the form a woman standing beside a column. She is shown facing to the front, and has her hair dressed with a centre parting and long ringlets in bunches on either side of her face and neck. She wears a decolleté high waisted dress and in her right hand holds up the skirt slightly so that her right toe is visible. In her left hand she holds to her breast a bird with outstretched wings. The back impressed 'DENBY & CODNOR PARK. BOURNE'S POTTERIES. DERBYSHIRE

The Codnor Park pottery was founded in 1820 by the Butterley Iron Company. In 1833 it was taken over by Joseph Bourne, the proprietor of the Denby pottery, who ran it until 1861. The mark indicates that the flask was made after 1833.
